The fight against HIV/AIDS is set to intensify, thanks to mobile technology! Speaking at the 2007 SANGONeT information and communications technology conference, General Manager for Cell-Life Dr Peter Benjamin, told delegates that funding for a project that will see mobile technology being used in the fight against HIV/AIDS had been acquired.
Benjamin said that the project is quintessentially a step towards a "mass HIV/AIDS information network on a cellphone". Benjamin said that the technology could also be used to improve internal democratic principles within a movement such as TAC.
To illustrate the power of the cellphone, Benjamin said that TAC only has 5 personal computers as opposed to 218 cellphones.
The project is set to officially go on pilot in March of 2008.
Benjamin said that the process towards the March deadline will kick-off with a needs analysis from all stakeholders which should then be proceeded by a "Techie Prototype" to test the technology.
Cell-Life is a Cape Town based company that provides "technology-based" systems for the managment of HIV/AIDS. |
